Senior Controls Engineer - Automation Systems
We are seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead the development and implementation of automation systems for industrial clients. This role requires extensive technical expertise in PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA platforms, along with leadership capabilities to manage projects and engineering teams effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement control systems for industrial processes and machinery that meet client specifications.
Develop control system architectures, select hardware components, create schematic diagrams, and prepare system documentation.
Program and configure controllers (PLC, DCS, RTU), design HMI/SCADA visualizations, and develop databases for historical data tracking.
Apply programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text, and others to achieve automation goals.
Knowledge of VBA, .NET, SQL, and API integration for HMI/SCADA systems is preferred.
Design and implement industrial networking solutions using communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus.
Manage projects by developing execution plans, budgets, schedules, and ensuring timely completion while tracking financials.
Oversee daily project operations for systems up to $1M, ensuring efficiency and profitability.
Lead and mentor engineering teams, providing technical guidance and problem-solving support.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
10+ years of experience in controls engineering with expertise in the following areas:
In-depth understanding of DCS hardware/software platforms, such as Emerson DeltaV or similar.
Experience with Rockwell Automation and Cimplicity preferred.
Knowledge of third-party web-based data integrations for monitoring and troubleshooting.
Familiarity with SQL, .NET, Power BI, Grafana, and APIs.
Hands-on experience with PLC and HMI/SCADA platforms, including Rockwell, Siemens, Modicon, Wonderware, GE CIMPLICITY, and others.
Experience in industries such as semiconductor manufacturing, life sciences, food & beverage, oil & gas, and mining.
Ability to design electrical schematics, control panels, and power distribution systems (under 480VAC).
Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
Strong leadership skills with a track record of mentoring and guiding engineers/technicians.
Prior experience in field troubleshooting and job estimating.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
Ability to lift, drive, and mount/dismount equipment as needed.
Work takes place in office settings, industrial environments, and on-site locations.
Frequent use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
