The Client I am working with is a 100% employee-owned ESOP and one of the largest and most well-established engineering firms in the United States.
They have an opening for a Controls Engineer in our Albuquerque, NM office. This role involves leading a team to deliver automation systems across various industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in delivering innovative automation solutions and design standards, either independently or as part of a team.
- Conceptualize, detail, and implement control systems for industrial processes and machinery to meet customer requirements.
- Develop control system architecture, select components, create schematic diagrams and system documentation, program controllers (PLC, DCS, RTU), and process visualization (HMI/SCADA).
- Develop databases for archiving and displaying historical system data, and implement and commission control systems at client facilities.
- Utilize programming languages such as Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text, VBA, .NET, and SQL for HMI/SCADA systems.
- Design and implement industrial networking systems using protocols like Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus.
- Manage projects, including developing execution plans, work breakdown structures, budgets, scheduling, time tracking, financial tracking, and conflict resolution.
- Oversee daily operations and activities of projects up to $1M, ensuring overall project profitability.
- Act as a technical lead on projects, guiding lower-level engineers and technicians, and potentially managing smaller projects.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience as a Controls Engineer.
- Preference for candidates with experience in Rockwell and Cimplicity.
- Experience with third-party web-based data integrations for monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Ability to develop work processes for automating template and instance development within the System Platform.
- Technical leadership in design standards for graphics, alarming, and scale-up.
- Proficiency in SQL, .NET, Power BI, Grafana, and APIs.
- In-depth knowledge of PLC platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Modicon.
- In-depth knowledge of HMI/SCADA platforms such as ICONICS Genesis64, Wonderware ArchestrA System Platform, GE CIMPLICITY, GE iFIX, Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View, Schneider, and Siemens.
- In-depth knowledge of DCS platforms such as Emerson DeltaV or similar.
- Experience in industries like semiconductor fabrication, life sciences, building automation, food and beverage, oil and gas, and mining.
- Experience designing electrical schematics, including power distribution under 480VAC, control panels, and NEC references.
- Experience with AutoCAD is preferred.
- Experience leading a team of engineers/technicians and mentoring less experienced engineers.
- Professional references from a subordinate, a peer, and a manager.
- Field device/equipment troubleshooting and job estimating skills.
