An established environmental consulting firm is seeking a Senior Biologist to join its collaborative team in Southern California. This role is crucial for leading special-status species surveys, botanical surveys, nesting bird surveys, restoration monitoring, and biological construction monitoring across Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties. You will have the opportunity to work across various North American regions as part of a rapidly expanding team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead surveys for nesting birds, biological resources, habitat suitability assessments, vegetation community classifications, plant and animal species inventories, and jurisdictional delineations.
- Develop permit application packages for federal and local agencies, including ACOE, CDFW, and USFWS.
- Coordinate with field teams and project managers to ensure compliance with permit conditions.
- Travel to remote job sites and work in construction environments where attention to detail and timeliness are essential.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Wildlife, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 4 to 8 years of relevant biological experience in Central or Southern California.
- Familiarity with sensitive species such as the California gnatcatcher, least Bell's vireo, southwestern willow flycatcher, yellow-billed cuckoo, burrowing owl, California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, blunt-nosed leopard lizard, and special status flora is highly desirable.
- Experience with environmental regulations including NEPA, CEQA, and ESA.
- Knowledge of federal and state protected species and permitting processes.
- Proficiency in using GPS units in the field (Field Maps, Survey123).
- Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with ArcGIS and statistical software is a plus.
- Ability to travel, work extended hours, and spend long periods outdoors.
- Valid 40-hour HAZWOPER training certification is preferred.
