We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Air Quality Scientist with a strong background in fire science to join the team at an air quality environmental consulting firm. The ideal candidate will have expertise in wildland fire management, fire behavior, fire research, wildland fire smoke emissions, and fire weather meteorology. This role is crucial to advancing air quality monitoring initiatives and ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct research and analysis on wildland fire behavior, smoke emissions, and fire weather meteorology.
Utilize strong spatial analyst skills using ArcGIS or QGIS for data analysis and visualization.
Work with satellite data (MODIS, VIIRS, RAVE) and NEXRAD weather radar data for fire science applications.
Develop and implement scientific computing and data analysis scripts using languages such as R and Python.
Produce, validate, and apply meteorological datasets (e.g., WRF) for air quality monitoring.
Utilize atmospheric dispersion modeling tools, specifically HYSPLIT, CALPUFF, WRF, WRF-Chem, or WRF-Fire, to predict and analyze air quality impacts.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement air quality monitoring strategies.
Effectively communicate technical findings and solutions to team members and stakeholders.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
Strong background in wildland fire management, fire behavior, fire research, wildland fire smoke emissions, and/or fire weather meteorology.
Strong spatial analyst skills using ArcGIS or QGIS.
Experience using satellite data (MODIS, VIIRS, RAVE) and NEXRAD weather radar data.
Experience with scientific computing and data analysis scripting languages (e.g., R, Python).
Experience with producing, validating, or applying meteorological datasets (e.g., WRF).
