Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will play a key role in the Buildings-Structures Team, conducting inspections, preparing technical assessments, and ensuring compliance with structural standards. Key duties include:
- Performing inspections and condition assessments for parking structures and buildings, identifying necessary repairs.
- Compiling detailed technical reports that outline inspection findings, structural integrity assessments, and repair recommendations.
- Gathering and analyzing data from field surveys, structural plans, blueprints, and technical drawings to support engineering decisions.
- Ensuring that construction and inspections adhere to design specifications, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Acting as an on-site inspector, overseeing project progress, quality control, and adherence to contractual agreements.
- Reviewing contractor work, project phasing plans, and compliance documentation to maintain project integrity.
- Managing load calculations, evaluating change orders, and resolving discrepancies within structural designs.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate smooth project execution.
- Attending pre-construction meetings, addressing contractor inquiries, and clarifying technical requirements.
- Assisting engineers and project managers in risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
- Calculating contractor payments based on completed work and maintaining thorough documentation.
- Interpreting inspection data to support structural, environmental, and operational planning.
- Providing guidance and mentorship to junior inspectors and engineering staff.
- Coordinating and scheduling inspections with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
Role Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of post-education experience, with at least 3 years specializing in structural inspections (including concrete, steel, and masonry) and structural repair design.
- A New York State Professional Engineer (PE) License.
- A Qualified Parking Structure Inspector (QPSI) certification issued by the NYC Department of Buildings.
- A current OSHA-10 Hour safety certification.
- A valid state driver's license for site visits and inspections.
- Strong knowledge of construction inspection principles, industry codes, and regulatory compliance.
- An analytical mindset with the ability to assess engineering challenges and make sound decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and within a team, balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification as an ACI or ICC Concrete Construction Special Inspector.
- ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector certification (preferred).
