Job Title: Project Director - Transmission, Distribution, & Substations (Hybrid, Traveling)
Location: Hybrid - 2 days remote, 3 days in-office (Houston, TX)
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Project Director to lead a multimillion-dollar portfolio of complex projects in the transmission, distribution, and substation sectors. This role encompasses leadership in cultural, client, project, and commercial aspects, ensuring successful delivery of EPC and service projects across a designated region. You will oversee client relationships, project execution, and contribute to business development efforts within the organization. Substantial travel to project and client sites is required. When not traveling, this position will follow a hybrid work schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Project Management: Lead and direct multiple complex project teams, ensuring successful execution of projects with substantial impact on regional communities. Manage the delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects with a focus on safety, quality, and on-time completion.
- Client & Business Development: Build and nurture client relationships while identifying and securing new business opportunities. Oversee contract negotiations and ensure client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
- Team Development & Mentorship: Mentor and supervise project managers, fostering a culture of growth and excellence within the team. Support the professional development of staff while promoting a culture of collaboration and safety.
- Risk Management: Manage and mitigate risks across a broad and complex portfolio, ensuring that all projects are delivered within scope, schedule, and budget.
- Safety Leadership: Uphold the highest standards of safety, ensuring all projects comply with relevant safety regulations and company standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience:
- 15+ years in the energy and infrastructure sector, including a strong focus on transmission, distribution, and substation projects.
- At least 5 years in a senior project management role for an EPC firm, specializing in one or more of the following: transmission, distribution, or substations (overhead, underground, or high voltage).
- Proven leadership experience, including ownership of large EPC projects and direct oversight of project teams.
- Expertise in negotiating large contracts (typically $50 million+) in the energy utility space.
- Strong background in managing construction teams, both direct hire and subcontractors, in utility-scale transmission, distribution, and substation projects.
- Skills:
- In-depth understanding of the utility-scale transmission and distribution market.
- Strong risk management, budgeting, and financial oversight capabilities.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders, including external partners and contractors.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent industry experience.
- Other Requirements:
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle records search, as required by company policies and applicable regulations.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Work Schedule: Hybrid - 3 days in office, 2 days remote.
- Environment: Typical office environment and construction site conditions. Exposure to extreme weather, high noise levels, safety hazards (e.g., electrical currents, scaffolding, high places), and atmospheric conditions (e.g., fumes, dust, chemicals). Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 40 pounds). Driving may be required to travel to project and client sites.
