Principal Engineer Responsibilities:
- Provides direct oversight and coordination of all civil design tasks, identifying potential design and scheduling issues, implementing cost-effective solutions, and managing both internal team members and external consultants (including civil, survey, landscape, and Geotech experts).
- Develops Conceptual and Preliminary Site Plans, determines Civil/Stormwater design requirements, submits Entitlement designs, coordinates with external design consultants (civil, survey, and landscape), creates construction documents, and prepares WQMP, SWPPP, NOI plans and applications. Offers bid and construction support.
- Prepares and reviews basis of design reports, design memos, construction specifications, and other project-related documents as necessary.
- Defines project scope, organizes and assigns tasks, and approves all drawing packages, exhibits, and assembled documents.
- Creates and distributes cost estimates, proposals, schedules, timelines, and project deliverables (such as status reports, meeting reports, site-specific reports, conceptual and preliminary plans, drawings, etc.) to the project manager or client.
- Promptly identifies cost over-runs and communicates out-of-scope work to project managers, providing accurate design service proposals or change orders.
- Schedules, coordinates, and attends meetings with the project team, client, and review agencies, ensuring necessary documents (exhibits, progress prints, backup data, etc.) are prepared by the team.
- Negotiates on behalf of clients to secure all necessary project permit approvals.
- Collaborates with the team to develop innovative solutions to technical challenges and recommends changes or improvements to plans and programs.
- Shares experience and insights with the design team to help produce deliverables that meet local design standards, criteria, guidelines, and engineering practices.
- Provides technical advice to clients, helping them accurately understand project issues.
- Reviews and approves employee timecards and consultant invoices in line with company standards.
- Conducts quality control checks, reviewing calculations, designs, evaluations, and specifications for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensures all deliverables are accurate, complete, and compliant with customer standards/specifications and applicable codes.
- Manages accuracy, cost control, budget, reporting, and timeliness of all assigned projects and client relations.
- Ensures team members fully understand and apply relevant client design standards and procedures.
- Manages all aspects of assigned civil projects, including control, organization, planning, and communication with internal and external team members, jurisdictional agencies, and client representatives.
- Leads the preparation of proposals, RFP bid submissions, and contracts.
- Directly supervises the Civil Design Team, including interviewing, hiring, training, and coaching employees, addressing complaints, resolving problems, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, and disciplining employees in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Education and/or Experience:
Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or 15+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
