They are seeking a talented and experienced Lead Power Systems Engineer to join our team in Sydney and play a key role in the development and integration of cutting-edge renewable energy technologies.
Position Overview:
As the Lead Power Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical design, integration, and optimization of power systems within renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). You will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, collaborate with stakeholders, and contribute to the development of innovative solutions that support the efficient, reliable, and safe integration of renewable power into the grid. This role requires a deep understanding of power systems engineering, grid integration, and renewable energy technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and leadership to a team of power systems engineers, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and timely delivery of engineering solutions for renewable energy projects.
- Grid Integration: Lead the design, simulation, and analysis of grid connection studies, including grid code compliance, power quality assessments, and fault level analysis for renewable generation and energy storage systems.
- System Design & Optimization: Design and optimize power systems for renewable energy projects, including the integration of solar, wind, and battery storage technologies with the electrical grid. Focus on maximizing performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Power Systems Modelling: Use advanced power system modeling tools (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, MATLAB, PSCAD) to simulate, analyze, and optimize power flows, stability, and dynamic response of renewable energy systems.
- Technical Standards & Compliance: Ensure that all designs and systems meet local regulatory requirements, industry standards, and grid codes (including AEMO standards for the Australian market).
- Project Management Support: Work closely with project managers and other stakeholders to develop project scopes, timelines, and budgets. Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies to commissioning and operational support.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Interface with utilities, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with grid integration requirements and resolve any technical issues or challenges.
- R&D and Innovation: Stay updated with emerging technologies in the renewable energy sector, including developments in smart grids, energy storage, and advanced power electronics. Drive innovation within the engineering team to improve system efficiency and reliability.
- Mentorship and Team Development: Provide mentorship to junior engineers and foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering team culture.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Professional engineering registration (e.g., Chartered Engineer or equivalent) is desirable.
- Experience:
- At least 8 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a strong focus on renewable energy projects (solar, wind, battery storage, and/or hybrid systems).
- Proven experience in grid integration and power systems analysis, including working knowledge of Australian grid codes and regulations (AEMO, NER, etc.).
- Experience with power system modeling and simulation tools (e.g., PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD, MATLAB, DIgSILENT, etc.).
- Strong background in power quality analysis, fault analysis, dynamic simulations, and energy storage systems.
