Position Title: Mid-Level Instrumentation and Controls Engineer
Location: Littleton, CO, USA
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to define project scopes
- Lead the design of instrumentation and control systems for medium to large-scale projects
- Design and develop PLC SCADA networks for complex systems
- Specify and design industrial fiber optic networks and related systems
- Develop SCADA network block diagrams
- Select appropriate instrumentation for projects
- Prepare P&IDs and control strategies
- Design layouts for control panels and develop related documentation, such as ISA data sheets and input/output point lists
- Review submittals and manage specifications for instruments, networking equipment, PLCs, and associated components
- Estimate preliminary and final construction costs for instrumentation and control projects
- Lead client workshops on instrument selection, HMI graphics, and standards
- Design radio telemetry SCADA systems using various technologies, such as microwave and cellular
- Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development
- Prepare technical reports and memorandums
- Oversee the instrumentation portion of medium to large-scale projects in the water and wastewater sector
- Conduct quality reviews of designs and ensure adherence to project specifications
- Contribute to the ongoing development of I&C master specifications
- Develop customized specifications for unique instrumentation applications
- Manage multiple project demands and competing priorities
- Supervise other engineers and CADD technicians to ensure efficient project completion
- Provide guidance on complex tasks and propose practical solutions
- Engage in client relations and business development activities
- Evaluate alternatives and make timely decisions based on project needs
- Simplify complex engineering concepts for broader team understanding
- Ensure high attention to detail in design calculations, drawings, and specifications
- Monitor project scope, schedule, and budget to ensure successful delivery
- Adhere to technical standards and enforce compliance on all projects
- Travel for site visits and construction observation as required
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
- 6-12 years of experience in electrical power and control systems for water, wastewater, or petrochemical industries
- Strong knowledge of P&ID development, instrumentation selection, control panel design, PLC systems, SCADA HMI software, and process control
- Ability to contribute to control system network design, radio telemetry, logic diagrams, and control schematics
- Experience with field construction and startup support
- Registered Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire
