Job Title: Mechanical Engineer, PE I
Location: Chester, Virginia, United States
Job Description: As a Mechanical Engineer, PE I, you will be responsible for independently applying your knowledge of analysis, synthesis, and design of industrial processes. You will ensure process safety, machine safety, and operability throughout all phases of design. You will work under the direction of Lead Engineers and potentially work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a multi-discipline team to optimize mechanical designs within project constraints.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and development of project execution.
- Lead the mechanical engineering effort for assigned projects, including tracking budgets and schedules.
- Troubleshoot operating processes and equipment, developing effective engineering solutions.
- Provide guidance to the team to optimize process designs.
- Interpret and comply with regulations, codes, and industry standards to meet design requirements and best practices.
- Develop design criteria for all project stages (feasibility studies, basic engineering, conceptual design, detailed design).
- Create Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Be familiar with common piping materials, piping specifications, and piping accessories/supports.
- Size, specify, and describe via a data sheet and/or written specification the important criteria for purchase and pricing of common industrial equipment.
- Write concise work packages for bidding and construction.
- Conduct pipe stress calculations and provide redesign recommendations if necessary.
- Analyze and specify industrial ventilation systems.
- Create equipment specifications for equipment selection and purchase.
- Coordinate with equipment vendors for design considerations and pricing.
- Oversee designers in producing CAD drawings and construction grade drawings for installation.
- Present designs to clients for approval and incorporate modifications as needed.
- Participate in project team representation during PHAs and HAZOPs.
- Primarily work in an office environment with occasional travel to project sites.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- 5+ years of experience in design engineering.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license is required.
- Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project. Plant 3D and Navisworks experience preferred. AFT Arrow and Fathom experience would be beneficial.
- Familiar with sizing pressure relief devices using API/ASME methodology.
