Position Overview
The Managing Director - BESS will play a crucial role in leading and expanding the company's Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) division. Reporting directly to the CEO of the battery subsidiary, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing the company's BESS strategy, overseeing project development, and driving business growth in this key sector.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the BESS team, driving strategic direction and execution.
Develop and implement a market strategy for battery storage, ensuring alignment with the company's renewable energy focus.
Oversee the first battery management project and guide the acquisition of a greenfield BESS project.
Work closely with origination, sales, and trading teams to optimize BESS integration into the company's portfolio.
Evaluate and lead the potential spin-off of a dedicated BESS unit, aiming to reach 1.5 MW of battery storage capacity.
Engage with regulatory bodies, investors, and key stakeholders to position the company as a leader in battery storage solutions.
Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to BESS operations.
Foster a high-performance culture by mentoring and developing a team of 7-10 professionals within the BESS unit.
Work closely with international teams in other global offices to drive collaboration and synergies.
Qualifications & Experience
Extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, with a strong background in battery storage solutions.
Proven track record in leading teams and managing large-scale energy storage projects.
Strong commercial acumen with a front-office mindset and ability to engage with investors and stakeholders.
Knowledge of the regulatory landscape and market dynamics for battery energy storage in Germany and Europe.
Experience in an asset-light, market-focused renewable energy business model is preferred.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and business development skills.
Work Environment & Expectations
Based in Düsseldorf, with an expectation of being in the office 3-4 days per week.
