Job Title: Junior Environmental Engineer
An environmental consulting firm is seeking a talented environmental engineer to join their environmental services division in the suburban Chicago, Illinois. This junior-level position involves working on contaminated site assessment and remediation, groundwater management, Brownfield redevelopment, and environmental due diligence, while also gaining business skills essential for a successful consulting career.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Two to five years of work experience (required)
- BS degree in environmental engineering, civil or chemical engineering, or similar (required)
- Advanced degree in the same fields (preferred)
- Project experience with environmental field investigations, including Phase I ESAs, soil, soil gas, groundwater, and surface water sampling, and environmental and geotechnical drilling (preferred)
- Ability to obtain professional certification (P.E., P.G., or CHMM) (required)
- Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers (preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and/or GIS (required)
- Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record (required)
Job Responsibilities:
- Conducting fieldwork such as soil, soil gas, surface water, air monitoring, and groundwater sampling, drilling and contractor oversight, and remediation treatment system operation and maintenance
- Logging soil borings; installing monitoring wells, aquifer testing, and groundwater monitoring
- Preparing soil boring and well construction logs
- Evaluating chemical and hydrogeological data, including mapping and reporting
- Data analysis and database management, including preparing tables, maps, and figures using AutoCAD and GIS applications
- Providing contamination assessment services, such as designing and implementing sampling plans, pilot test designs, and bench scale testing programs
- Performing remediation system operation and maintenance services
- Conducting remedy evaluation, cost estimating, design, and implementation
- Supporting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Transaction Screening Assessments
- Assisting in the development of proposals and other business development activities
Fieldwork: Up to 70%
Overnight Travel: Up to 30%
