The company is looking to hire one of their first in-house high-voltage engineers who has as strong of a self-starter personality in addition to technical engineering leadership skills. This is an exciting opportunity if you're a substation/power systems engineer ready to gain renewable energy experience outside of just T&D, ready to move from a larger firm to a mid-size EPC where you're the main SME for substation engineering work, are looking for more flexibility & less travel in an 100% remote set up with less than 10% travel, or are simply just looking for more responsibility or to be a more well-rounded HV engineer.
The ideal candidate will bring previous engineering consulting and/or EPC experience or if coming from a utility, has previously worked for several utilities therefore understanding different standards and processes by customer.
This is a full-time direct hire and opportunity to sit 100% remote - current organization is mostly scattered remotely across the US in various time zones & regions. If interested in being near the HQ, location can be shared upon inquiry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight & review of engineering designs, standards, coordination, development support.
- Provide SME knowledge & oversight when it comes to things related to substation physical engineering, power system studies, or protection & control/relay projects.
- Serve as POC and manage third party engineering design firms/consultancies & coordinate with local utilities, owners, and other external/internal departments.
- Participate/lead meetings around the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the substation.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 7-12+ years of engineering experience - minimum of 3-4 years US based experience.
- Focused technical experience in 1-3 of these focuses: substation physical design, protection & control, protective relaying/relay settings, SCADA, commissioning/field support, substation engineering, NERC compliance.
- Must be strong and interested in communicating with others.
- Four-year bachelor's degree in engineering.
- PE License not required but a plus.
- Must be currently living in the United States.
Preferred & Added Bonus:
- Based in EST or CST (those base in MST or PST don't be discouraged to not apply, this role does not require much travel!)
- Previous experience from an engineering consultancy or design firm.
- Previous renewables experience a plus but not required.
- Experience with relay settings/system protection.
