The client is looking for a GIS Manager is a full-time position within the Connectivity team.
Overview
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the GIS Manager is responsible for designing, managing, recording, and maintaining the fibre network systems across subsea, terrestrial, and internal fibre cable assets. The role includes vendor selection, deployment, and operation of a new GIS Management System alongside the IT Systems team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy a new centralized geospatial network database for current and future infrastructure projects.
- Work with the IT Department to create a company-wide access system with appropriate data controls and permissions, ensuring the security of critical and sensitive network information.
- Design terrestrial fibre-optic networks to meet the company's objectives and targets.
- Process and accurately record network changes resulting from service delivery/provisioning works, new construction, or maintenance activities, and train internal staff to do the same.
- Issue fibre splicing instructions to field staff and contractors to effectively deliver and maintain client services.
- Work with subsea engineers and project managers to support the design and construction of subsea cable systems.
- Maintain an up-to-date record of all network as-built files for all geospatial assets.
- Provide prompt, high-quality reports to other teams and departments to support the successful completion of their core activities, such as Sales, Service Delivery, and the NOC.
- Create and maintain internal procedures and documentation to ensure that all aspects of the geospatial network tools are understood and can be maintained.
Qualifications & Experiences
Key Requirements:
- At least 5 years' experience in a role that includes direct knowledge of designing and managing geospatial records within the Telecommunications industry.
- Demonstrated experience in managing priorities and workflows across multiple departments and deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines or challenging real-time situations (such as an emergency network outage).
- Ability to work autonomously and remotely to agreed objectives.
- Demonstrated experience of performing spatial analysis and creating detailed reports to support key decisions within the business.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in producing Scopes of Work for use by Service Delivery and Project Management to engage contractors to complete works.
- Clear experience in managing large volumes of new data and processing it quickly and efficiently to ensure that the company always has the latest information available.
- Experience in GIS system managing datacenter connectivity would be an advantage.
Desirable Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Systems and/or GIS.
- Experience in designing, deploying, and managing end-users accessing the database through a permissions hierarchy.
- Direct experience of working with long-haul subsea cables, including recording of client services delivered as wavelengths, spectrum, or capacity.
- Experience of working with maritime datasets.
- Experience of using GIS to support permitting and regulatory compliance.
- Experience of leading IT projects for systems upgrades of the GIS software.
