Job Details
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer for our Westminster, CO location. This role involves direct interaction with customers and collaboration with a team of engineers and drafters to identify electrical requirements, develop specifications, design 480 VAC systems and MCCs, oversee panel fabrication and FATs, manage site electrical contractors, and test installations.
The engineer will research system ideas and create plans for power and control at 480 VAC and below, including instrumentation and control devices. Responsibilities include reviewing and developing system specifications and drawing packages, conducting factory tests, and providing support throughout the manufacturing and commissioning of the electrical and control systems designed, including installation, wiring, check-out support, and commissioning/qualification.
Candidates with experience in PLC or DCS programming, HMI/SCADA programming, network design, and/or IT/OT equipment are highly desirable.
Major Responsibilities
- Design and create drawings for 480 VAC systems, including motor branch circuits, power distribution, MCC design, and electrical equipment specifications.
- Design hazardous areas in compliance with Class I Div. 1 and Div. 2 codes.
- Specify, wire, troubleshoot, and calibrate instruments.
- Develop schematics for control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts. This includes specifying control system designs and directing technicians in creating drawings.
- Ensure compliance with NEC and other relevant codes.
- Perform system checkouts and start-ups at customer sites for electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Develop final record system documentation and provide system training to customers.
- Work on electrical and control system integration projects across various industries, including life sciences.
- Manage multiple projects independently, acting as Technical Lead or Project Manager for smaller projects ($50K to $250K). Responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing project implementation plans.
- Assigning tasks to meet project deadlines.
- Ensuring team members understand the scope of responsibilities.
- Creating schedules for project and customer requirements.
- Evaluating project progress and detailing changes.
- Managing purchasing and subcontractor requirements.
- Developing cost estimates and proposals for change orders.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
- Interest in obtaining a PE license is preferred.
Experience
- 3-7 years of experience in:
- Preparing specifications for electrical, instrumentation, and PLC control panels.
- Designing electrical schematics, including power distribution at 480VAC and below.
- Installing, checking out, and commissioning electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Understanding NEC and other relevant codes, including hazardous area requirements.
- Familiarity with construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing to ensure compliance with specifications and codes.
- Using CAD, Excel, and other software for project documentation and organization.
- Reviewing fabricator and external design drawings and documentation.
- Providing cost estimates for electrical controls.
- Monitoring project deliverables to ensure they are within budget and on schedule.
- Experience in industries such as Life Sciences, Building Automation, Food and Beverage, Oil & Gas, and Mining.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for effective collaboration with team members, subcontractors, and clients.
- PLC programming experience is preferred.
- AutoCAD experience is desired.
- Providing professional references from a subordinate, peer, and manager.
- Ability to travel up to 35%.
