We are seeking an experienced Director to manage a multi-disciplined team for planning, new construction, and renovation projects in healthcare and life sciences facilities. The ideal candidate will have expertise in designing and managing projects for Acute and Ambulatory Care Health Facilities, as well as Academic and Corporate Research Facilities.
Position Summary:
The Director will build and maintain client relationships, respond to RFPs, and present/interview for potential projects. This role involves problem resolution related to projects, design, staffing, and timelines. The Director will serve as the primary point of contact for clients, overseeing project coordination, execution, and budget management, as well as managing direct reports.
This hybrid position requires a minimum of 3 days per week in our Voorhees, NJ office. There is an opportunity for advancement to the VP/Department head position, which includes significant bonus/profit sharing compensation.
Responsibilities:
- Provide management, mentoring, and oversight for the team, supporting cross-discipline coordination.
- Oversee technical quality and QA/QC processes, documenting reviews.
- Supervise and manage direct reports and assigned engineers, conducting necessary meetings.
- Maintain project schedules and manpower assignments.
- Develop and write bid proposals, contracts, and cost estimates.
- Provide engineering expertise, guidance, and problem-solving for drawings, designs, specifications, and calculations.
- Review project plans and timelines to ensure projects are on time and on budget, adjusting resources as needed.
- Establish and maintain excellent client relationships.
- Interact with other Department Directors to ensure efficient department operation.
- Hire, train, and mentor engineering staff in conjunction with VP and President.
- Write performance appraisals and mediate performance issues.
- Ensure accurate project accounting and compliance with accounting protocols.
- Maintain department budget and revenue projections.
- Support department marketing efforts.
Requirements:
- Deep knowledge of multi-discipline engineering, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection.
- Proficiency in detailed design for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical/IT systems in healthcare and life sciences fields.
- Strong project management skills.
- Knowledge of local, state, and national code requirements (NFPA, Joint Meeting, FGI, AHJ).
- Experience with load analysis and energy modeling programs (eQUEST, Trane Trace, ENERGY STAR, Carrier HAP).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Knowledge of USGBC LEED Rating system is a plus.
- Strong time management skills, comfortable with deadlines and transitions.
- Strong financial management skills and business acumen.
- Ability to plan and manage projects to meet client demands and deadlines.
- Ability to manage internal and external resources.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to train and mentor others.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Education and Experience:
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
- At least 15 years of progressive engineering and managerial experience, with a strong record in designing and managing projects for critical care facilities and laboratories.
- Experience managing a multi-disciplined team of MEP engineers and designers.
