Job Opportunity: MEP Data Center Engineer
Location: Irvine, CA
A leading quantitative investment management firm is seeking an experienced MEP Data Center Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical) to ensure the high availability and flexibility of its critical physical infrastructure. The firm operates a large, mission-critical data center supporting its global securities trading operations. This role offers a unique combination of hands-on operations, design responsibilities, and strategic planning within a collaborative and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Implementation: Lead or participate in the design and implementation of data center infrastructure modifications, including cooling systems, electrical distribution, and Building Management System (BMS) enhancements.
- Capacity Planning: Manage power, cooling, and space capacity for whitespace buildouts.
- Project & Vendor Management: Oversee projects and coordinate with vendors to ensure timely execution of upgrades and maintenance.
- Data Analysis: Extract and analyze data from BMS systems for diagnosis, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Documentation: Interpret and work with engineering documents, including Single-Line Electrical Drawings, network architecture drawings, P&IDs, SOPs, and maintenance manuals.
- Operations & Maintenance: Hands-on operation and maintenance of data center infrastructure, including cooling, power, security systems, and BMS.
- Procedures Development: Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Energy Control Procedures (ECPs), and perform Lockout Tagout (LOTO).
- Maintenance Coordination: Plan and coordinate maintenance activities, including administration of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Emergency Response: Serve as an on-call responder for critical after-hours issues.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Experience: 8+ years in critical facilities design and operations, ideally within data centers.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of Electrical Power Distribution, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), Diesel Engine Emergency Power Plants, Direct Expansion and Centrifugal Refrigeration Systems, Evaporative Cooling Towers, Pumps, Water Distribution Systems, Air Handling Units, Distributed Control Systems or BMS (especially Automated Logic Control), Hydronic systems, Valves and Flow Control Devices, Sensors, Motor Controls, Variable Frequency Drives, Chemical Water Treatment, and Fire Detection and Protection Systems.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to perform cooling and power calculations on single and three-phase circuits.
- Safety Knowledge: Understanding of MEP standards and operations, safe work practices, Arc flash hazards (NFPA 70e), Lock-out Tag-out, and OSHA standards.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and diagnostic skills.
Preferred Skills & Additional Experience:
- Programming: Experience with high-level programming languages, such as Python.
- Control Systems: Experience with control system programming, such as BMS (Automated Logic Control a plus) and common communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, SNMP).
- Networking: Experience with networking infrastructure, including switches, routers, TCP/IP, and cabling systems.
- Maintenance Programs: Development of maintenance programs, such as Condition-Based Maintenance and Reliability-Centered Maintenance.

Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range: $160,000 - $250,000, commensurate with experience.
- Relocation Bonus: Up to $50,000 to assist with relocation expenses.
- Deferred Bonus Program: Eligible for a deferred bonus program, with base salary and bonus potential in the first year, and additional bonuses for each subsequent year of service.
