Description: Our client is 100% employee-owned ESOP and one of the largest and most well-established engineering firms in the United States.
We have an opening for a Controls Engineer in our Albuquerque, NM office. This role involves handling controls engineering project requirements, including PLC programming, HMI/SCADA programming, control panel design, instrumentation specification, check-out support, and commissioning assistance.
Major Responsibilities:
Project Execution:
- Identify, prioritize, and schedule tasks with personal accountability to meet commitments
- Identify problems early and resolve conflicts
- Work under the guidance of experienced engineers
- Continuously improve project execution through methodology, lessons learned, templates, and efficiency tools
- Communicate and interact frequently with clients
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and codes
Technical Writing:
- Draft project definitions and requirements, status reports, process control sequences, standard practices, procedures, scopes of supply, requests for information, customer correspondence, and code comments
Engineering Design and Implementation:
- Develop and implement software (DCS/PLC, HMI, etc.)
- Support lead engineers with hardware engineering (systems integration, instrumentation callout, panel layout, and construction) and systems design (integration of various project components)
- Support factory/site acceptance testing, user acceptance testing, and user training
- Program control logic, construct graphics, configure device communication, and manage databases
- Read, interpret, and update documents, drawings, and specifications related to process control and automation projects (e.g., PFDs, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, instrumentation and control data sheets, I/O lists)
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: BA/BS degree in engineering or a related discipline (Electrical, Chemical, Controls, or Computer Engineering preferred). A technical degree and equivalent experience may be substituted.
- Experience: 3+ years of directly related experience in process control, manufacturing, or information services. Preference given to candidates with Rockwell and Cimplicity experience.
- Skills:
- Experience in PLC, DCS, and/or SCADA/HMI design, development, and deployment
- Strong leadership and client relation skills
- Good engineering and documentation practices
- Experience (or willingness) to use collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint) for remote team work
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word (SharePoint experience is a plus)
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 25%
Preferred Skills:
- Diverse process knowledge (e.g., Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Water & Wastewater)
- Schneider Unity programming experience
- Allen Bradley ControlLogix programming experience (PlantPAx a plus)
- SCADA/HMI experience (ICONICS or Wonderware a plus)
- Experience with checkout, testing, startup, and commissioning
