A leading engineering firm is growing its structural team and seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to support heavy industrial structural design and construction projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, multi-discipline projects while taking on leadership responsibilities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical design leadership with minimal oversight.
Lead conceptual design through final engineering.
Identify and resolve technical design conflicts efficiently.
Manage structural design efforts across multiple projects.
Develop engineering drawings and technical documentation independently.
Generate innovative solutions to complex structural challenges.
Perform design calculations and utilize computer-aided design tools.
Serve as the structural team lead in project meetings.
Thrive in a schedule-driven environment while managing budgets and deadlines.
Conduct fieldwork and construction site visits (climbing stairs/ladders, extensive walking).
Mentor and guide junior engineers.
Occasional travel within Virginia and surrounding states.
Assist in developing proposals, material take-offs, and construction estimates.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET-accredited program preferred).
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia (or ability to obtain within six months).
4-7 years of relevant experience, including high-seismic area design.
Extensive knowledge of steel & concrete structures, foundation design, timber and masonry design, architectural codes, site design, and permitting.
Proficiency in structural design software such as Autodesk Revit, RISA 3D, Profis, Mathcad, AutoCAD, Advanced Steel, SAP2000, or STAAD.Pro.
Strong team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
Comfortable with job site work, including working near hazardous equipment and machinery.
