Automation Project Engineer

Job Overview:
A leading industrial automation solutions provider is looking for an experienced Automation Project Engineer with expertise in process control software development. This role involves working directly with clients to define automation requirements, develop and implement control system software, conduct system testing, and provide training and startup support. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in control systems and a passion for solving complex industrial challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and configure automation software using Emerson's DeltaV system.
Collaborate with customers to assess process control needs and deliver tailored solutions.
Perform software testing, troubleshooting, and validation to ensure system reliability.
Provide hands-on assistance during system commissioning and plant startup.
Apply industry standards, including ISA S88, to batch control applications.
Interpret P&ID diagrams and electrical schematics for I/O configuration.
Work with OPC interfaces and integrate various control instruments such as pressure, temperature, and flow sensors.
Manage projects effectively, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.
Communicate and coordinate with both internal teams and customers to ensure successful project outcomes.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
5+ years of experience in industrial automation, process controls, or related fields.
Hands-on experience with Emerson's DeltaV or similar DCS platforms.
Background in industries such as chemical, life sciences, oil & gas, or pulp & paper.
Strong understanding of software development for industrial control applications.
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with excellent problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite for project documentation and reporting.
Willingness to travel up to 25% across Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with ISA S88 batch control applications.
Strong knowledge of control instrumentation (valves, drives, sensors, etc.).
Analytical mindset with a drive for continuous learning and process improvement.
