Role Overview

The Senior Structural Engineer will be responsible for the planning, analysis, design, and construction administration services of complex structural systems for a wide variety of public and private development projects. These include structural investigations and evaluations, integrity assessments, crane railway surveys and inspections, and the design of foundations, structural steel, reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete, masonry, wood structures, special structures, and bridges and culverts. As a senior, advanced engineer, you will be responsible for technical development in the Structural Department. You may lead one large project or several smaller projects, coordinating the work of less experienced engineers, technical assistants, and drafters. You will work closely with directors, managers, and engineering staff to ensure our client's needs and expectations are exceeded.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare complex calculations, designs, specifications, and/or reports for checking and reviewing by others.
  • Check complex calculations, designs, specifications, and/or reports prepared by others.
  • Assume complete responsibility for structural engineering for complex projects.
  • Direct technicians and/or drafters assigned to the department.
  • Coordinate work of your discipline with other disciplines.
  • Make recommendations and/or decisions on unusual or complicated issues.
  • Coordinate all aspects of project document completion within the company and externally with clients and other design professionals.
  • Direct and assist co-workers with performing field measurements.
  • Assess the requirements of a project, break it down into tasks, and work with a project manager to determine scope, budget, and staffing.
  • Serve as Project Engineer on complex, single-discipline projects and complex multi-discipline projects.
  • Review work of the project design team, check progress, and alert the Project Manager to needed changes to the scope or other services.
  • Work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to the building code is required.
  • Direct construction observation of others on complex projects.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio.
  • Structural analysis software experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes.
  • Commitment to staying current on the "state of the art" in your design specialty through periodicals and continuing education.
  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD and Revit.
