Senior Natural Resources Scientist

An environmental consulting firm is seeking a Senior Natural Resources Scientist to join their team. The candidate will be skilled in performing resource area delineations, collecting relevant data, and writing wetland field reports, wildlife habitat evaluations, and project narratives for permit documentation. The candidate will also coordinate with design teams, identify necessary permits, and prepare permit applications to ensure successful issuance.

Duties and Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead Scientist overseeing wetland reviews, delineations, data collection, wildlife habitat evaluations, and other biological surveys.
  • Provide oversight on regulatory projects, including proposal development, cost estimation, task execution, and client satisfaction.
  • Manage permitting, agency coordination, and public outreach.
  • Collaborate with environmental, regulatory, and land use agencies to obtain permits and project approvals.
  • Oversee the preparation of environmental documents for various regulatory bodies.
  • Direct GIS specialists in mapping, field data collection, and data analysis.
  • Manage multiple tasks across various projects, coordinate effectively with team members, and work independently.
  • Research and interpret federal, state, and local regulations to assess project permitting feasibility and requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and applicability.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Science, Marine Science, Biology, or a related field.
  • 5 to 10+ years of experience in technical areas, including project management and leading technical teams.
  • Familiarity with federal, New England area (Massachusetts and Rhode Island), and municipal environmental permitting regulations and processes.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent writing and public presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite; CAD and ArcGIS experience is a plus.
  • Ability to foster a positive work culture.
  • Willingness to work a hybrid schedule.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in wetland consulting or with regulatory agencies.
  • Willingness to perform fieldwork and site visits, with experience using fieldwork equipment and software.
  • Certifications such as PWS, CWS, Class IV Soil Scientist, or Certified Wildlife Biologist, or actively working towards these.
  • Familiarity with SWPPPs, SPCCPs, etc.
