Water/Wastewater Sr Project Manager
Overview
Our client is an internationally recognized environmental engineering firm that specializes in the planning, design, and construction of water, wastewater, stormwater, and reuse facilities. They are seeking a Client Service Manager/Project Manager to support their client growth and project demands in the Kansas City, Missouri area.
The selected candidate will align client needs with the firm's evolving capabilities and serve as a representative with clients and regional water organizations. This role involves working on projects related to municipal water and wastewater distribution, conveyance, collection, supply, pump stations, pipelines, and sewers. Responsibilities include master planning, asset management, condition assessments, infrastructure improvements, water quality studies, and system rehabilitation and expansions to ensure sustainable and resilient water supplies.
Responsibilities
- Serve as project manager for several concurrent water and/or wastewater projects, which may include varying project sizes and complexities, including distribution and collection systems, storage, and pumping facilities.
- Apply acute technical and project delivery knowledge to advise clients throughout the project life cycle and meet or exceed budget, schedule, and quality goals.
- Plan, schedule, and conduct engineering work on water, wastewater, stormwater, and reuse projects of various sizes and complexity, with full responsibility over design decisions and quality standards.
- Specific work will include preliminary design, detailed design, cost estimating, bidding, engineering services during construction, and project commissioning.
- Representative engineering tasks include the development of hydraulic calculations, preparation and review of technical memoranda, design development and reviews, design management in coordination with discipline engineers (e.g., civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls), and QA/QC.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of staff engineers, drafters, technicians, and others assisting with specific assignments.
- Participate in recruiting and hiring potential employees.
- Identify the need for and actively manage sub-consultants performing services on projects.
- Demonstrate a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding extensive engineering programs.
- Facilitate business development efforts, including marketing and identification of new clients.
- Prepare proposals and interviews, and lead negotiating efforts with clients after selection.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with client management personnel.
- Maintain a culture of effective communication among project teams, clients, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Minimal travel is required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri (or the ability to obtain it through reciprocity within six months of employment).
- 15+ years of water and wastewater project experience in the field of Environmental Consulting Engineering, with an emphasis on distribution, conveyance, collection, supply, pump stations, pipelines, and sewers.
- Must have demonstrated experience managing small- to large-sized projects during the planning, design, and construction phases of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects, with full responsibility for budget, schedule, contractual obligations, and quality standards.
- Familiarity with a broad range of issues related to water, wastewater, and stormwater systems, including master planning and conveyance system design.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
- Experience with business development, proposals, and interviews.
- Works well in a team environment.
- Ability to deliver high-quality services within budget and schedule constraints.
- Highly motivated, articulate, and self-starting.
