Water Resources Engineer
Position Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced Water Resources Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their growing team. This position, based in Fairfax County, offers a dynamic opportunity to work on a wide variety of water resources projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in stormwater management, floodplain analysis, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, and dam permitting. As a key team member, you will have the opportunity to manage projects, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to complex and impactful engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Design various stormwater management (SWM) facilities, such as bioretention areas, green roofs, permeable pavements, stormwater ponds, and underground detention facilities.
Oversee construction inspections and provide construction administration for SWM facilities.
Develop and implement stormwater operation and maintenance programs for entities managing large SWM assets.
Model and analyze local and FEMA floodplains, including studies for existing conditions and proposed alterations.
Analyze and permit state-regulated dams, including developing dam breach inundation studies, operation and maintenance permits, alteration permits, emergency action plans, and annual dam inspections.
Prepare stormwater management concept plans, final construction documents, technical reports, and local/state permit applications.
Manage project schedules, work plans, and client relationships.
Supervise at least one direct report and serve as a technical mentor to other engineers.
Manage multiple projects and deadlines while ensuring timely regulatory approvals.
Provide training and support to junior engineers and contribute to team development.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 4+ years of professional experience in water resources engineering.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and H&H modeling software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-1, HY-8, Flowmaster).
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia or ability to obtain within six (6) months.
Strong analytical, communication, writing, and organizational skills.
Attention to detail and a commitment to quality control.
Experience training and mentoring junior engineers.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency with ArcMap or similar GIS software.
Experience in writing proposals for new projects.
Familiarity with regulatory codes and permitting processes related to stormwater management and dam permitting.
