Senior Protection & Control / Studies Engineer

Position Overview

The Protection and Control Engineer performs detailed electrical studies and develops protective relay settings for power system equipment in substations. This role ensures the reliability, safety, and compliance of the power system through various electrical analyses and relay programming/testing. This position is hybrid based out of Exeter, New Hampshire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct electrical system studies, protective relay settings, and support design of P&C/Substation projects within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Coordinate design activities to maintain project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
  • Ensure design activities comply with applicable codes and standards (IEEE, NFPA, NEC, NESC) and company policies.
  • Collect data for studies, reports, relay settings, and designs.
  • Write technical reports summarizing electrical study findings and recommendations.
  • Check manufacturers' prints for acceptability and perform necessary calculations.
  • Deliver accurate and thorough designs that meet industry standards and client specifications.
  • Prepare progress reports, compliance documentation, and maintain technical documents and drawings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college.
  • 6+ years of engineering experience in the electric utility industry or utility consulting.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, substation design methods, power system protection philosophies, electric system modeling, and relay settings.
  • Ability to coordinate with other groups to ensure project success.
  • Strong planning, organizational skills, and a drive to learn.
  • Willingness to self-learn new software applications.
  • Competence with software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, AutoCAD Electrical, ARCGIS, SKM, ETAP, AcSELerator, and protective relay testing & commissioning software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE).
