Municipal Department Manager

Position Overview: The Municipal Department Manager will oversee the planning, design, and execution of municipal infrastructure projects. This leader will play a key role in business development, project delivery, client management, and team leadership, contributing to the firm's continued success and growth in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Strategy: Develop and execute strategies to expand the municipal engineering practice in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and surrounding regions.
  • Project Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of municipal projects, ensuring on-time delivery, budget adherence, and quality excellence.
  • Client Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with public and private sector clients, including MDOT, municipalities, and other agencies.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue new project opportunities, lead proposal development, and participate in interviews to win work.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide oversight and guidance on complex municipal engineering projects, ensuring innovative and cost-effective solutions.
  • Team Development: Mentor and grow a team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, professional development, and technical excellence.
  • Financial Management: Manage project budgets, forecast revenue, and contribute to the division's profitability goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Michigan (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • 12+ years of experience in municipal engineering, including project management and leadership roles.
  • Proven experience working with MDOT and other local agencies.
  • Strong technical expertise in municipal planning, design, and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client management, and growing a practice area.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
