Senior Hydraulics Engineer

Our client, a well-established and respected engineering firm, is seeking a Senior Hydraulics Engineer to join their team in Fairfax, Richmond, Blacksburg, or Hampton Roads, VA. With over 110 years of experience, this company has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions and fostering a collaborative work environment. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead hydrologic/hydraulic (H/H) studies and drainage design for transportation projects.

  • Design stormwater management (SWM) systems and erosion/sediment control (ESC) solutions.

  • Conduct watershed analysis and modeling for river mechanics and floodplain studies.

  • Prepare and modify CADD drawings and construction plan documents for drainage designs.

  • Develop storm sewer systems, including profiles and detailed design.

  • Perform bridge/culvert hydraulics and design, including scour analysis.

  • Utilize GIS-based project mapping and H&H modeling software.

  • Prepare technical reports and construction cost estimates.

  • Occasional field work may be required, so access to a vehicle is needed.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in water resources engineering, specifically in transportation projects.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or the ability to obtain licensure within 6 months of employment.

  • Experience with VDOT Hydraulics, Erosion and Sediment Control design, and Hydrologic/Hydraulic Stream Analysis.

  • Strong background in Stormwater Management design, FEMA FIS Flood Study, CLOMR/LOMR submittals, and knowledge of Hydraulic Engineering Circulars (HEC).

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment with a positive attitude.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Hydraulics Discipline Lead or a goal to pursue a leadership role in the future.

  • Experience in developing contract advertisement documents, including plans, engineer's estimates, bid quantities, and contract specifications.
