The client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Design Manager specializing in Mechanical/Electrical engineering to lead the design phase of data center projects in Japan. This role involves managing design consultants, coordinating with internal teams, and ensuring that all design aspects meet high standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership: Direct and coordinate teams of architectural, structural, civil, MEP consultants, and internal SMEs to develop and issue complete data center design packages.
- Design Management: Oversee and manage the zoning, entitlement, and permitting process to ensure permit approvals are secured prior to construction commencement.
- Quality Assurance: Perform construction administration services to ensure the construction meets or exceeds the design intent and is of high quality.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Engage with general and MEP contractors to provide progress design constructability, cost, and schedule reviews and input.
- Technical Expertise: Provide leadership and technical guidance on the latest technologies, engineering methods, and tooling available in the market.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs are compliant with local regulations and global standards.
- Sustainability: Advise on sustainable design practices to meet environmental targets and ensure future-proofing of data center designs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience in design management and 5+ years within the data center or mission-critical industry.
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems and data center infrastructure.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in English is a plus.
