Location: Washington, DC

Position Description: A leading company in the construction sector is seeking an Estimator to play a pivotal role in shaping the company's bidding strategy, overseeing estimating operations, and ensuring accurate, competitive, and strategic cost estimates for high-impact projects. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in telecommunications and electrical work, and will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare clear and detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and performing quantity take-offs
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of all contract documents
  • Ensure proper document control and distribution for all bid documents and proposals
  • Develop subcontract scope for projects and manage the subcontractor RFP process
  • Qualify and level subcontractors' proposals according to project specifics
  • Interact with customers, engineers, and subcontractors to understand and incorporate project objectives, schedules, permits, and costs
  • Assist with the turnover process by providing proper documentation related to the project
  • Provide ongoing technical support during the project execution phase
  • Maintain strict control of the project budget for each work activity
  • Report monthly on the progress and current profitability of the project
  • Write subcontracts and purchase orders for field-generated purchases and contracts
  • Supervise the project activities of on-site superintendents, craft, and staff
  • Promote goodwill with clients to facilitate construction activities and future repeat business
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of estimating experience in the underground utility construction markets, including underground electrical/civil, telecommunications, sewer/water, and fiber/electrical conduit work
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a relevant discipline
  • PMP Certification strongly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy of information
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel; estimating and scheduling software skills preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines with efficiency and accuracy
  • Ability to take initiative, work well under pressure, and work independently or under executive direction
