Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Energy Preconstruction Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Energy Preconstruction Engineer, you will play a critical role in the planning and development of energy projects from conception through to construction. You will utilize your expertise in energy engineering, project management, and preconstruction processes to ensure the successful execution of complex energy initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Develops overall project design approach, strategies, management and oversight. Partners with project development and construction teams to ensure alignment of project scopes of work for client, Southland expectations and construction cost estimates. Performs as lead mechanical engineer to ensure that projects are delivered within budget and on schedule while managing the mechanical team including HVAC, fire protection, plumbing and electric disciplines.
- Refines construction scopes of work and design packages during development phases; manages internal/external design teams toward required project deliverables for construction documents from development through construction completion. Coordinates with Project Executives and Project Managers on cost estimates, contract and procurement strategies, construction planning and risk management.
- Provides input and management regarding sub-contractor design partners and vendor strategies, prequalification, scoping, pricing, and management during the preconstruction phase. Performs site investigations and attends in-person meetings with clients, design teams, subcontractors, vendors and other project participants as required. Site visits will include data collection and evaluation of MEP systems, equipment, components, and materials for project with and without well-defined scopes.
- Directs activities to verify installed mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials conform to the requirements of project contract documents. Ensures conformance with standards, established design practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering. Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in energy engineering, construction management, or related field, with a focus on preconstruction activities.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
- Experience with LEED and sustainable design with LEEP AP and CEM certifications desired.
- Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Bluebeam based design projects
- Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex energy projects from preconstruction through to completion.
- Strong technical expertise in energy systems, renewable energy technologies, building codes, and construction practices.
- Proficiency in energy modeling software, cost estimation tools, and project management software.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and environmental sustainability in all aspects of project execution.
- 10-20% travel required.
