Job Title: Distribution Designer - Texas
Summary: A Texas-based consulting company is seeking qualified candidates who are highly organized, energetic, and self-motivated for the position of Electric Distribution Designer. The role involves producing electric distribution field designs, staking distribution facilities, estimating projects, and preparing construction prints using electronic design/estimation software, all in line with client standards and specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Professionally represent both self and client's image during interactions with property owners, engineering firms, and construction resources.
- Stay updated on evolving technologies, work planning, and design methodologies in Electric Distribution Design.
- Mentor and train staff to transfer design knowledge effectively.
- Proficient in designing overhead and underground electric distribution facilities.
- Recognize electric distribution framing and components from 4kV to 35kV and initiate designs accordingly.
- Perform distribution line design calculations and adhere to construction safety guidelines using industry-standard tools.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of work.
- Possess strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
- Manage multiple projects with varying design iterations and priorities effectively.
- Skilled in using laptop computers and software such as MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Excel in time management and multitasking.
- Work outdoors for extended periods in diverse weather conditions and travel, including overnight stays.
- Navigate various terrains and carry surveying instruments and staking equipment for Electric Distribution Design.
- Utilize tools for clearing brush and shallow excavation to locate property identifiers for staking and design purposes.
Qualifications:
- Prefer candidates with an Associate's degree or certificate in Electric Power Technology or 3+ years experience in electric distribution design and estimation.
- Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
- Knowledge of joint construction and electric utility best practices.
- Understanding of Electric Distribution construction framing techniques, practices, and components.
- Proficient in using surveying equipment and gathering geospatial points.
- Ability to interpret property line boundaries, topographic surveys, construction staking, and collection of geospatial points.
- Utilization of electronic design/estimation software for cost estimates, labor, material units, work instructions, and construction sketches.
- Experience in researching and collecting property deed information for easement evaluation and property boundary definition.
- Familiarity with the NESC and its application to electric distribution line design.
